San Martín Bridge, this bridge represents a significant example of Medieval military architecture, which along with the Alcántara Bridge, forms part of the City's defensive enclosure. This bridge is work of the Archbishop Pedro Tenorio, dating from the 14th Century, with five arches that substitute the bridge that was raised in 1357, which was partially destroyed during the clashes between Pedro I and Enrique de Trastamara. The central arch, which is greater than the rest, is pointed and has a height of 27 meters . Two gates or towers defend this Gothic style armature at its extreme ends.
This Renaissance gate, which is of Arab origin, is also known as the Gate of the Jews given that it accessed the Jewish Quarter of Toledo. The gate was reformed by the architects Hernán González, Velasco, Monegro and Vergara el Mozo in the 16th Century, during the reign of Felipe II and when Gutiérrez Tello was the King-appointed Mayor. The gate was transformed from what its original primitive structure had been to its current structure, with four towers defending the central courtyard and framing the two Renaissance façades. The highly decorated exterior has a gallery and two arches and it is finished with the City's Coat of Arms.
The Abbots' Tower, powerful Islamic construction raised with reused keystones from Roman buildings. Its name alludes to the defense that the clergy made of the city in the 12th Century to protect it from the Muslim attacks. Said Tower, with a spur-like (albarrana) structure, was used during the 16th Century as the site for public weighing of flour, where cereals were weighed prior to their milling and likewise the resulting flour.
