The Ermita de la Virgen del Valle is a very popular site, where large masses of people are gathered to celebrate the intensity and deep-rooted devotion to the Virgin. This is demonstrated by the cheerful procession that is celebrated on the 1st of May.
The beautiful tile plinths, together with the adorned slabs forged by Julio Pascual, provide a colourful imagery to the event, which is briefly illustrated in a verse which was written on a piece of pottery made by Ruiz de Luna: “... even though I am small, I appear to you as a great chapel, since the queen who dwells inside has the city of Toledo sitting beneath her feet...”.
This phrase depicts the splendid panoramic view of Toledo from the interior atrium. The Steel mills can be seen on the other side of the river and these ingenious medieval inventions have stopped being used only during the past century. Similarly, those of Romayla and Saelices can be seen on this side of the chapel.
